Humor and Gratitude
Jokes about the pandemic lock-down are coming fast and farcically on social media. If you follow the lines of humor, we are all stress-eating, working without pants, binge-watching Netflix and taking our laptops into the bathroom in the middle of Zoom meetings.
While humor helps us endure this surreal time, I believe another emotion also is at play: gratitude.
Our goal at Dasher is to be grateful for this experience, however negative and stressful it might be, and to make the most of it.
Even though we might be working off-site, we have all communication channels open: email, phone, text, meeting apps.
Living Our Values While Being Remote
We still can transmit our core values of caring and respect, using the Microsoft Teams app. We might endure some minor hiccups as we adapt to telecommuting, but we remain focused on education, training, listening and connecting.
We already had built a secure base of trust, so we know our employees are working hard, protecting sensitive information, documenting their efforts and doing what it takes to get the job done.
Today, more than ever, our work culture will carry the day. Hopefully, you had developed a resilient, open and supportive atmosphere before COVID-19 struck.
A New Appreciation
Our team members also have gained a brand-new appreciation for their children’s teachers and for stay-at-home moms. Some young mothers always thought they wanted to be at home with the kids, but the weeks of isolation have been an eye-opening experience. They discovered the grass is not always greener.
When I look toward the end of this shutdown, I remember the famed quote of Dr. Seuss, with a twist: We will surely be happy when this is all over, but we will also be grateful it happened.
Gratitude transforms us, and it makes us realize that what we have now is all we really need.
